Commencing the first week of January 2012, we have been running an After-School Care and Enrichment Program at our community center at Hailaast. Working with 60 children selected from the community, we prepare and provide lunch and a warm place conducive for study and interaction with their peers.

“An investment into a child’s future, helps to bring richness and meaning to his life.”

In most countries, homes would probably be the best place for children to study after school. However, Mongolia has long cold winters from October to April with temperatures dipping to an average of -30 degrees. Many homes, especially in Hailaast, are not heated throughout the day due to financial constraints.

Since the community center has the capacity to handle up to 100 children, we also open the center and its facitlies to other children from the community would like study there.

In addition to being able to use the center’s library resources, children needing help with school curriculum receive tuition from volunteer teachers. We hope to be able to provide extra-curricular activities, such as art and music, in the near future to further enrich the children.
