GNS runs a preschool for children from families struggling with poverty in the far west of Uvs province's centre, Ulaangom. We work with the local government to choose appropriate children to enter the program and give them school preparation for one year. This involves government-approved quality lessons, food, and play time etc.
The preschool commenced operations on November 7, 2011, with 38 children. As many of them had never previously been in a preschool, they initially had problems even with holding a pencil to draw a line, using scissors to cut paper or using a brush to paint. The preschool curriculum includes regular classes in mathematics, Mongolian language, poems, songs, crafts and English.
The nine employees that work at the kindergarten focus not only on the children's cognitive development, but also on their physical development. The cooks at the kindergarten prepare nutritious meals, provide fruit juice and milk, and ensure that each child gets a regular supply of vitamins.
We thank a group of businessmen for their support in enabling GNS to set up Elio-Enerel Preschool, but still need more support.
Registration for the next group of children will begin shortly, in August 2012.
